About Delicata House

Where it all began:

It all started with my lips. That’s right! Back in 2007 I began to have reactions to every lip gloss, balm, or lipstick I owned. My lips would burn, itch, and peel. I went to see a doctor and he said he couldn’t test me for every ingredient in my lip products (and there were many). But I was definitely allergic to something.

So I purchased an herbal book with recipes and made my own lip balm in my kitchen. I loved it since it made my lips feel soft and moisturized and didn’t cause any reactions. My kids, extended family, and friends loved it too. And I’ve been making my own lip balm ever since. Sure, I’ve tweaked the recipe here and there, but my lip balms are still made in my kitchen with only a handful of ingredients anyone can identify.

How I came up with the name:

I live in a rural area in the Finger Lakes Region of New York. We are lucky to have a large Amish community here, which means country stores full of fresh produce, natural bulk products, seedlings, and garden supplies. In the Autumn of 2017, I was at Countryside Market, right around the corner from our house, and was walking through the pallets heaped with all kinds of Fall and Winter Squash. And there was the mountain of Delicata Squash and I whispered, “Delicata House”.

Maybe it’s a nod to my Italian heritage (my maiden name was Corriero). And also it’s an idea that I wanted a feeling of naturalness in the name as well as an invitation. I wanted people to have a sense that they were always welcome at Delicata House. A house is, ideally, a home, a place of safety, acceptance, healing, and rest. And the invitation is to “Come Home to Your Well-being”.

From 2018 to the present day:

Fast forward to 2018 when I started Delicata House as a way to share my handmade, small-batch, natural face + body care products with everyone else. That year, I opened an Etsy shop and also enrolled in aromatherapy school online at the School for Aromatic Studies so I could learn to safely and effectively blend essential oils for body care products.

In November 2018 I launched my own web shop as a way to provide more options for customers and clients to connect with me and purchase Delicata House products.

Since launching Delicata House, I've taken several trainings to be able to teach yoga and meditation, as well as offer classes, workshops, and consulting:

  • In January 2019, I completed Level 1 of Aromatherapy Certification.
  • From 2019-2022 I studied in the Ayurvedic Practitioner Program at Yoga Veda Institute.
  • In the Spring of 2021, I completed my Ayurvedic Yoga Teacher Training through Yoga Veda Institute.
  • Also in Spring of 2021, I completed Yoga Farm's Radiant Warrior 200 hour yoga teacher training.
  • In February 2022, I completed my 200 hour Instinctive Meditation Training with Lorin Roche & Camille Maurine.
  • In November 2023 I completed a 300-hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training at Yoga Farm Ithaca.

And I am currently (mid-2025) enrolled in an herbalism program online and also hope to complete a Qigong training this year.

With these holistic wellness modalities, I would love to share what I've learned with you, to encourage and support your own inner evolution and overall wellbeing with the products I make and the services I offer.
