Encouragement

Rob Hopkins is a hero of mine. He is a co-founder of the Transition Network and speaks and writes tirelessly on how our imagination and creativity can change the world and our future. Every time I listen to or read something by Rob, I am uplifted and hope is kindled again.

This week, I listened to his interview on In Conversation with Nathalie Nahai titled How to Fall in Love with the Future…Where does AI Fit? It made my whole week’s outlook more positive and reminded me that yes, my imagination and creativity are powerful and can help change the world. Please give it a listen, especially if you’re feeling downhearted, discouraged, and/or helpless!!

Rob’s new book, How to Fall in Love with the Future: A Time Traveller’s Guide to Changing the World is out in the US on September 16th and I can’t wait to read it! His last book, From What Is to What If is definitely worth reading while you await the new release.

Upcoming Classes & Events

On Patreon:

Our LIVE Wednesday morning 8-9am ET Yoga Classes on Zoom continue! To take these gentle, stretchy, feel-good classes, become a member of Yoga Club LIVE on my Patreon.

September is National Yoga Awareness Month. If you’d like to get back into yoga or start a practice, I’ll be hosting a Sweet and Easy 5-Day Yoga Challenge for all Patreon members (free or paid). All you have to do is become a member of my Patreon to get access.

I will be also adding on to the tincture course I taught in August with a new series: Tinctures for Your Home Apothecary. In each recorded class, I’ll share a specific tincture’s benefits and why you might want to include it in your home remedies for common everyday issues like sleep trouble, digestive complaints, colds, and more. If you’re a paid member, you will have access. Sign up for Patreon here.

On Substack:

Have you ever wanted to go through The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron? Or maybe you have and you’d love to go through it again? We’ll be doing this for our Fall Book Club for paid subscribers to my Substack.

I will include an end-of-week reflection and a chat where we can share and connect with others who are doing the practices in the Artist’s Way. Grab a copy this weekend (or perhaps dust off the old copy on your bookshelf) and let’s do this together! Become a paid subscriber of Old Soul Stories here.

Recipes

If you need an easy, summery dessert for your next gathering, I suggest the Peach Cobbler by Pinch of Yum. I’ve made this recipe twice in the past few weeks–it’s really easy and soooo good! I sub gluten free flour and sunflower oil for the regular flour and butter. Also, I only use ¼ c. oil in the topping instead of the ½ cup because it crumbles up better that way. Try this recipe out on your friends and family–they’ll love it!!

Personal Updates

Steps for Gaza Fundraiser

I am so happy the weather is cool! Being a person with lots of Pitta in my constitution, cool weather just makes me feel better. I’m especially glad about the cool weather since I’ve been walking every single day for our Steps For Gaza Fundraiser.

If you haven’t heard about the fundraiser my daughter and I have been running all through August, you can read about it here and watch the video we made below. We’re now at 75% of our goal and I think I’ll run it until we hit the goal. My birthday (and my husband’s) is September 5th, so I’m hoping we’ll hit it by then.

Reading

I have so many books going right now, it’s a little crazy and I’ll only mention a few:

Non-Fiction:

Ordinary Mysticism: Your Life as Sacred Ground by Mirabai Starr (Mirabai has a relatable, inviting way of writing. I feel very encouraged as I read.

Regenerative Business by Samantha Garcia (I hope to learn a lot from her.)

Re-visioning Medusa: From Monster to Divine Wisdom (an anthology, I’m learning more about the Medusa myth and how it relates to the way women have been viewed throughout time.)

Fiction:

Third Girl by Agatha Christie (an Ariadne Oliver and Hercule Poirot mystery mystery)

Snow Blind by Ragnar Jónasson (a mystery, set in Iceland)

What are you reading this weekend?
